Sweet Celebrations: A One-Year Milestone Cake Smash Session
Turning one is a big deal—and this darling girl made it extra special! As a Cleveland child photographer, one of my favorite sessions to photograph is the one-year milestone, and this session was pure joy from start to finish.
Dressed in the softest dusty rose tulle dress with the sweetest matching bow, she looked every bit the birthday princess. The set was simple and elegant—just a beautifully frosted cake on a rustic stand, surrounded by soft pink peonies, and a glittery “One” topper. Sometimes less is more, and this setup allowed all the focus to be on her expressions, curiosity, and charm.
Milestone sessions at this age are a wonderful way to capture all those little details: chubby toes, frosting-covered fingers, and the way they study everything with those big eyes. She was fascinated by the flowers at first—delicately touching each one before turning her attention to the cake.
The cake smash brought out a few giggles and a lot of great, messy fun. I always love seeing how each one-year-old reacts differently to the experience. Some dive right in, while others, like this little one, are more gentle and exploratory—just dipping a toe or a tiny finger into the frosting before tasting.
